How to compare an offer
Hourly, annual and shift pay
Check the pay period before comparing amounts. An annual salary divided by 2,080 gives an hourly equivalent assuming 40 hours each week for 52 weeks. That is a calculation, not a separately measured hourly wage. For daily or shift pay, ask how many paid hours the shift includes.
What does the advertised amount include?
Ask whether the amount is guaranteed base pay or includes tips, commission, bonuses or overtime. Confirm any training rate, vehicle costs, benefits and deductions with the employer. A high advertised maximum is not a guaranteed offer.
Experience, licensing and training
Diesel mechanics in waste management maintain and repair heavy-duty collection trucks, roll-off vehicles, and front-loaders. They diagnose engine, hydraulic, and electrical issues to minimize vehicle downtime and keep fleets running safely. They also handle preventive maintenance and DOT inspections.
Use the actual listing to check minimum experience, license class, endorsements and whether training is paid. A driving category does not, by itself, establish that a CDL is required.
