Job Description

The role

As a Hydro‑Vac Operator, you’ll operate a modern, tri-axle hydro-vac truck to safely daylight utilities, slot trench, and perform other hydro vacuum excavation tasks on civil and utility projects across the Denver Metro area. As a member of our hydro-vac team, you’ll also support sewer maintenance operations by running our state-of-the-art combination sewer cleaner/Jetter truck on assigned tasks. The work is hands‑on, safety‑focused, and essential to delivering high‑quality deliverables to our clients.

What you’ll do

· Operate hydro-vac equipment (high‑pressure water + vacuum) to non‑destructively excavate and expose underground utilities, perform trenching/slot trenching, manage spoils, and clean pipelines, protecting and maintaining underground assets.

· Pre‑Trip equipment checks and inventory (fluids, hose condition, nozzle selection, PPE fit/function), water fill, consumable materials, on site equipment staging and ensure traffic‑safe set‑up (if required).

· Set up and break down the site and rig: hose/nozzle setup, water fill, staging, traffic awareness, and pre‑/post‑trip DOT and equipment inspections and routine care to maximize uptime.

· Work as a crew leader with a Swamper/Laborer. Communicate daily safety and hazard identification, assign tasks, and coach less‑experienced teammates to deliver safe, efficient work.

· Complete documentation: daily tickets, driver logs/DVIRs, inspections, and site notes both accurate and on time.

· Own safety: Follow company/site procedures with attention to detail and related hazard controls.

· Advise Operations Manager of any on-site conditions that present significant safety concerns and/or impact on the company’s ability to complete or perform the work as required.

· Establish upstream/downstream access, set pressure and flow appropriate to pipe size and material, and jet from the downstream manhole upstream unless site conditions direct otherwise.

· Coordinate with the crew for debris capture (vactor/collection), maintain continuous communication and line‑of‑fire awareness, and monitor for surcharge or backups.

· Post‑Trip: flush, inspect, dewater as required, and record segment IDs, footage, nozzle setup, and exceptions for follow‑up when necessary.

What you’ll bring

· Valid Class B minimum (Class A preferred) CDL with Tanker and airbrake endorsement required. HAZMAT preferred additional endorsements a plus.

· Experience: 1+ year minimum hydro-vac operating experience in the performance of utility potholing/QL-A Test Holes with strong knowledge of underground utility identification. Experience operating Jetter/combination sewer cleaner preferred.

· Safety mindset: Working knowledge of safe operating practices and job‑site hazard controls; OSHA‑10/First Aid/CPR welcome.

· Ability to read and interpret utility drawings, utility owner maps, and traffic control plans.

· Physical ability: Lift 50lbs repeatedly unassisted; stand/walk for long periods; traverse uneven surfaces and work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Nice to have

· Familiarity with ASCE 38‑22, utility locating/designating, and SUE quality levels experience collaborating with SUE/design teams.

· Basic mechanical aptitude and prior crew‑lead/foreman experience.
