This is a hands-on, customer-facing position. The right candidate takes pride in driving safely, protecting customer property, maintaining clean equipment, and completing each job professionally from delivery through final disposal.
What You’ll Do
- Safely operate an assigned roll-off truck to deliver, place, pick up, and swap 10-, 20-, and 30-yard roll-off dumpsters.
- Service local routes throughout Hampton Roads, including Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Newport News, Hampton, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and approved surrounding areas.
- Transport approved loads to assigned landfills, transfer stations, recycling facilities, and other licensed disposal locations.
- Inspect customer sites for access, overhead clearance, driveway conditions, pedestrians, traffic, obstructions, and other safety concerns.
- Safely maneuver, back, load, secure, place, and retrieve containers using approved procedures.
- Place and retrieve driveway-protection boards to help protect customer property.
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip truck and equipment inspections and promptly report mechanical problems, damage, unsafe conditions, or required maintenance.
- Maintain accurate route records, delivery and pickup confirmations, photographs, disposal/scale tickets, vehicle inspection reports, fuel records, and incident reports.
- Communicate professionally with customers, dispatch, disposal-facility personnel, contractors, and team members.
- Promptly notify dispatch of access issues, delays, overloaded containers, prohibited materials, property-damage concerns, or customer requests.
- Keep the truck, cab, containers, and work areas clean, organized, presentable, and ready for service.
- Perform routine yard and operational support duties, including washing trucks and containers, fueling or staging equipment, organizing driveway-protection boards and supplies, and keeping the yard orderly.
- Take vehicles or equipment to scheduled service appointments and coordinate access with approved service providers when assigned.
- Complete other reasonable tasks that support safe and reliable daily operations.
What We’re Looking For
- Valid Virginia driver’s license appropriate for the assigned vehicle and trailer configuration.
- Clean and satisfactory driving record, subject to motor vehicle record review.
- Ability to safely operate a medium-duty truck in residential neighborhoods, construction sites, commercial properties, disposal facilities, and tight-access locations.
- Roll-off, hook-lift, dump-truck, waste-hauling, towing, or similar commercial-truck experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong safety awareness, sound judgment, dependable attendance, and professional attitude.
- Ability to communicate clearly, follow dispatch instructions, read work orders and traffic signs, and complete required paperwork or mobile documentation.
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
- Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the position, including entering and exiting the truck, walking, climbing, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and handling required equipment and supplies.
