Pay Grade: 8 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible for the coordination and direction of drivers, trucks, and containers to create capacity, maximize productivity, and ensure prompt, courteous, and efficient service to all transfer stations and customers; accurately and efficiently monitoring/recording waste volumes entering the landfill, as well as collecting appropriate usage fees from customers. This position serves as the first contact for public and commercial customers at the Landfill.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General supervision received in accordance with the Southern Idaho Solid Waste Organizational Chart.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: This position does not have any supervisory responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Create and maximize capacity by ensuring productive use of all assets, equipment, and drivers.
Ensure maximum productivity by achieving or exceeding SISW-established goals by successfully routing vehicles.
Assign loads to drivers based on route efficiency and driver location.
Prepare, update, and dispense the daily route schedule.
Gather and maintain route sheet documentation for pick-ups, route completions, and driver locations.
Ensure route completion by a driver check-in process.
Courteously interact with customers, as required.
Determine the origin, weight, or volume of each incoming load of waste and enter disposal activity into a database.
Provides prompt, courteous, and accurate customer service to the public; responds to requests for information to maintain positive customer service relations.
Apprises the public of requirements, policies, and fees; resolves issues or seeks supervisory assistance.
Visually inspect customers’ material loads to ensure compliance with SISW permits, operation plans, and waste acceptance policies.
Identify acceptable wastes and direct traffic to the proper disposal area;
Accurately performs accounting-related duties pertaining to the receipt of cash and check receipts to ensure the integrity of the financial system.
Promptly, courteously, and accurately receives cash, checks, and/or credit payments for solid waste disposal transactions. Operates a cash register, makes appropriate changes, and processes credit card transactions. Issues receipts to customers remitting payments.
Balances the cash drawer daily using receipts, cash, and an adding machine; identifies errors and takes appropriate steps to remedy and/or report to the supervisor if not remedied. Prepares bank deposits and/or transfers of cash/checks as needed. Safeguards all receipts of cash/checks in accordance with accounting policies and procedures
Prepare and maintain daily records and post transactions.
Prepare monthly statements and collect/record payments on customer accounts.
Promptly and courteously answers the scale house/office telephone and provides accurate information in response to inquiries.
Respond to the public’s questions regarding prices, acceptable waste, hours of operation, and directions to the facility.
Maintains the scale housework area and equipment in a safe and clean condition at all times. Performs custodial duties to clean and maintain the scale house and break areas.
Keeps the scales clean and free of debris.
Performs and assists in clerical and other duties as directed.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
*An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
2. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of:
The use of office productivity tools and learning new software and processes.
Skilled in:
Verbal communication and customer service skills;
Time management and organization of daily workload by priorities.
Ability to:
Meet deadlines and complete daily activities in a dynamic work environment.
Follow through on oral/written instructions and other challenges as they arise.
Maintain confidentiality of information related to customer transactions.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, the public, and supervisors.
Comply with applicable district and departmental policies/safety standards and wear required personal protective equipment.
Perform duties independently in the absence of a supervisor.
Become familiar with all SISW acceptance policies for all materials accepted for final disposal.
3. Work Environment:
Ability to lift and/or move materials up to 25 pounds.
Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, reach, climb, balance, and sit.
Ability to operate a keyboard at an efficient speed and typical business office equipment, including computer hardware.
Regularly required to talk and/or hear; use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
Occasionally required to attend off-site meetings.
Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
