Job Title: CDL Roll-Off Truck Driver
Job Summary:
The CDL Roll-Off Truck Driver is responsible for safely operating a commercial roll-off truck to pick up, transport, place, exchange, and deliver roll-off containers and recyclable materials for NextGen Alloy Recycling. This position ensures containers and materials are handled safely, loads remain secure and within legal weight limits, transportation records are accurate, and customers and vendors are represented professionally. The driver is responsible for operating the roll-off hoist system, completing required inspections, evaluating site conditions, and complying with all applicable company, traffic, DOT, and safety requirements.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a commercial roll-off truck for container delivery, pickup, exchange, transportation, and material hauling.
- Operate the roll-off hoist, hydraulic controls, cable or hook-lift system, container locks, tarping system, and related equipment in accordance with training and manufacturer requirements.
- Inspect containers, hooks, cables, rails, rollers, locks, tarps, chains, and other securement components before movement or transport.
- Evaluate customer, vendor, and company sites for safe access, adequate ground conditions, overhead clearance, traffic, pedestrians, equipment, and other hazards before positioning or moving a container.
- Use a spotter when required and stop work when container placement, site conditions, clearance, or equipment condition creates a safety concern.
- Properly position, load, secure, tarp, transport, unload, and dump roll-off containers and recyclable materials.
- Confirm container compatibility, material type, load distribution, and estimated or documented weight before transport.
- Comply with vehicle, axle, bridge, container, and roadway weight restrictions and report overweight or unsafe loads before travel.
- Complete required pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections and all required vehicle inspection reports.
- Report vehicle damage, container damage, leaks, mechanical concerns, hydraulic issues, safety hazards, accidents, citations, or other incidents immediately.
- Verify and accurately complete pickup and delivery records, scale tickets, bills of lading, inspection records, logs, and other required documentation.
- Maintain material identity, accuracy, and traceability throughout pickup, transportation, delivery, dumping, and unloading.
- Follow assigned routes, schedules, dispatch instructions, customer requirements, and delivery or placement directions.
- Communicate delays, access problems, load discrepancies, unsafe site conditions, customer concerns, or service issues to the appropriate supervisor or management.
- Follow all applicable hours-of-service, logging, roadside inspection, traffic, DOT, FMCSA, company, and safety requirements.
- Maintain the cleanliness and basic organization of the assigned vehicle and secure all tools and equipment before travel.
- Communicate professionally with customers, vendors, employees, law enforcement, inspectors, and management.
- Operate other company vehicles or material-handling equipment only when properly licensed, trained, and authorized.
- Assist with shipping, receiving, staging, yard, warehouse, or general facility tasks when not driving, as operational needs require.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:

- Ability to operate a commercial roll-off truck and hydraulic hoist system safely, smoothly, and professionally.
- Ability to inspect commercial vehicles, roll-off equipment, containers, securement devices, and tarping systems and identify unsafe conditions.
- Ability to judge container alignment, clearance, site access, ground stability, load distribution, and vehicle positioning.
- Knowledge of safe load securement, container handling, weight limits, and material transportation practices.
- Ability to read and follow routes, pickup and delivery instructions, scale tickets, bills of lading, inspection forms, and related records.
- Ability to maintain material identity, accuracy, and traceability during transportation and container handling.
- Good communication, judgment, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently while following company procedures and supervisor direction.
- Ability to adapt to changing routes, schedules, weather, site conditions, priorities, and operational needs.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid Class A commercial driver's license required.
- Must be qualified to operate vehicles equipped with air brakes when required for the assigned vehicle.
- Current DOT medical certification and valid medical card required.
- Acceptable motor vehicle record and continued eligibility under company driver standards required.
- Must maintain all licenses, medical qualifications, records, and participation required by applicable DOT and drug and alcohol testing regulations.
- Previous commercial driving experience required; roll-off, hook-lift, dump, waste, recycling, or industrial hauling experience preferred.
- Experience securing, tarping, weighing, loading, unloading, or transporting industrial or recyclable materials preferred.
- Metal recycling, scrap processing, or specialty alloy experience is helpful but not required.
- Successful completion of company roll-off truck training, documented evaluation, and authorization is required before independent operation.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely operate a commercial vehicle for extended periods and maintain the alertness required for commercial driving.
- Ability to repeatedly enter and exit a commercial vehicle and climb onto approved steps or access points while maintaining three points of contact.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, climb, crouch, and perform physical labor throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly and more with assistance.
- Ability to handle chains, binders, tarps, controls, doors, container components, and related tools safely.
- Ability to work outdoors and around trucks, containers, forklifts, machinery, heavy materials, moving equipment, dust, vibration, and noise.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures, weather conditions, lighting, terrain, and customer or vendor environments.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment and comply with all safety requirements.
