Job Summary

As a Skid Steer Operator, you'll be the engine behind our shredding operation, moving material safely and efficiently across the facility so the Shredder Crew can hit its goals every day. If you hold a valid Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer License and take pride in safe, skilled equipment operation, we want to meet you.

Key Responsibilities

• Load prepared materials onto the shredder conveyor.
• Load shredded steel onto outbound trucks.
• Transport materials between loading, processing, and storage areas.
• Identify and report conditions in the work area that create driving hazards.
• Maintain awareness of pedestrians and other vehicles, and signal directions or warnings using the horn.
• Assist the crew with preventative maintenance on the skid steer, including cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting parts.
• Inspect skid steer parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear.
• Maintain and pass the operator certification test bi-annually.
• Team up with a partner to lift items over 50 lbs.
• Keep the work area clean, including sweeping 10 minutes before breaks and before the end of each shift.
• Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and dress appropriately for job duties.
• Notify EH&S of safety concerns, violations, PPE defects, or the need for replacement safety equipment.
• Minimize costs by properly maintaining assigned supplies, tools, and PPE, and help preserve fixed assets within the assigned area.
• Complete assigned compliance-based checklists and report issues to adhere to all certification standards and regulations.
• Support Loss Prevention in maintaining security measures related to sensitive information and theft.
• Inform management of issues including safety, security, employee relations, scheduling, and training.
• Participate in ongoing training and re-training on ERI procedures, policies, and plans.
• Build constructive, cooperative working relationships with coworkers.
• Share ideas for efficiency and continuous improvement with facility leadership.
• Work the assigned schedule based on business needs set by management.
• Adhere to all safety and compliance regulations and standards.

Required Qualifications

• Required: valid Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer License with the appropriate class for skid steer operation. Candidates must present the license prior to start.
• Ability to safely lift and carry 50 lbs; bend, stoop, walk, and reach overhead.
• Ability to push/pull, squat, twist, and turn without adverse physical injury.
• Good reading, writing, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines, stay organized, and prioritize multiple tasks.
• Professional demeanor and positive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2–4 years of relevant experience operating a skid steer or similar heavy equipment, ideally in recycling, scrap, manufacturing, or industrial settings.
