Mechanic Assistant

Job description:

The Mechanic Assistant works under close supervision in a shop or field environment to perform routine servicing, handle tools, and assist with major mechanical overhauls on garbage trucks, loaders, and other heavy equipment.

Responsibilities:

• Perform oil changes, fluid top-offs, greasing, lubrication, and filter replacements on diesel engines and machinery.
• Help lift, lower, remove, or install heavy parts and components like tires, batteries, starters, and hoses.
• Clean workspace, wash equipment, manage spare parts inventory, and organize tools.
• Handle minor adjustments or parts replacement under the direct instruction of senior mechanics.
• Follow all site safety protocols, conduct basic pre- and post-work safety checks, and maintain a clean work area.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent; experience in diesel or heavy equipment repair is a plus.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lift heavy objects, bend, stand for long periods, and work in various weather conditions.
• Basic mechanical aptitude, willingness to learn shop tools, and ability to follow safety rules and verbal instructions.
• Ability to communicate, read and write effectively in English to record services and maintain daily records.
• Ability to manage related occupational hazards.
• Valid driver’s license.
