Job Overview

QUALIFICATIONS: Persons hired for this position will be required to pass a physical examination, to include lower back strength, abdominal strength, general physical condition, and substance abuse testing, by GLRA's appointed physician.

All persons considered for this position will be required to have a valid PA Driver's License and a safe driving record for the past three years.

EXPERIENCE: One-year experience in the field of construction or equal is desired.

DUTIES: Complete specific work assignments safely, as assigned by the Management.

General duties include maintaining GLRA facilities in a safe and effective operational status. The laborer will be required to load trucks with recyclable materials (weights of up to 60 pounds are expected), move and store materials for GLRA operations such as 80-pound bags of concrete, bales of hay, spread mulch, gravel and stone, shovel snow, pick up litter, and support operations of the landfill, treatment facility, compost facility and other facilities as assigned. Some operation of power equipment is also required, weed trimmer, chain saw, lawn tractors, push mowers, jackhammer, air/electric power drills, gasoline power tamper, water pumps, grinders, farm tractors etc.

This position requires support for equipment operators on the landfill as requested, picking up litter without being told during slow periods, and removing or reporting safety hazards. Examples of hazards to personnel or equipment include materials on the landfill such as wire cables, bent piping, objects in mowed areas etc. Laborers will remove green waste/metals from trash, rubber car/truck tires, and remove waste debris from green waste area at the landfill and compost area. Laborers will clean scales, convenience center, maintenance building, main office, and pre-treatment plant, etc.

Hours are Monday through Friday 7:45 – 4:15, with mandatory Saturdays 8:00 – 12:15 when scheduled.

SAFETY: GLRA provides safety equipment, however safety ultimately rests with individuals. GLRA will not tolerate employees who do not exercise safe work practices.

Pay: $15.50 - $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 44.25 per week
