Heavy Equipment Operator - Landfill

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our landfill operations team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for operating a variety of heavy machinery to manage waste materials efficiently and safely. Your expertise will contribute to maintaining environmental compliance, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and supporting sustainable waste management practices. Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment including loaders, excavators, forklifts, front loader trucks, roll-off trucks, and garbage trucks to handle recyclable and non-recyclable waste materials.
• Manage the movement and placement of solid waste and recyclable materials in accordance with environmental regulations and safety standards.
• Conduct routine inspections of equipment to ensure mechanical integrity and safe operation; perform basic maintenance as needed.
• Follow all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), hazard materials regulations, and environmental compliance guidelines.
• Assist with landfill management tasks such as site leveling, cover application, and waste compaction to optimize space utilization.
• Support sanitation efforts by maintaining cleanliness around work areas and ensuring proper disposal of hazardous materials when applicable.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient material handling, safe operation of material handling equipment, and adherence to safety regulations at all times.

Skills

• Proven experience operating loaders, excavators, forklifts, front loader trucks, roll-off trucks, and garbage trucks in outdoor environments.
• Strong mechanical knowledge related to heavy equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of recyclable materials handling, landfill management practices, and solid waste management procedures.
• Familiarity with safety regulations including hazard materials handling, PPE use, and environmental compliance standards.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining proper ergonomic techniques.
• Excellent understanding of safety protocol adherence in outdoor work settings with a focus on sanitation and hazardous materials regulation compliance.
• Effective communication skills for teamwork and safety reporting purposes.
