Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Fleet Diesel Mechanic to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting a diverse fleet of heavy equipment, trucks, and industrial machinery. Your expertise will ensure our equipment operates efficiently and safely, supporting our ongoing commitment to excellence.

This position offers an exciting opportunity for mechanics with dealership experience and a passion for heavy equipment repair to make a tangible impact on the reliability and performance of our fleet.

Travel Requirements & Service Area

This position will require regular travel between our service areas in Indianapolis, Indiana; Elizabethtown, Kentucky; and Louisville, Kentucky.

The mechanic must be comfortable traveling between locations as needed to perform preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, diagnostics, and emergency service on company vehicles and equipment. Travel may vary based on fleet needs, breakdowns, scheduled maintenance, and operational demands.

A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required. Company vehicles may be used for work-related travel when applicable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fleet Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine safety inspections, oil changes, fluid flushes, track belt/hose wear, and execute full tune-ups on medium- and heavy-duty commercial diesel trucks.
  • Hydraulics & Hoisting Systems: Troubleshoot, maintain, and rebuild high-pressure hydraulic cylinders, control valves, winches, and cables specific to our roll-off dumpster delivery frames.
  • Specialized Equipment Servicing: Maintain and service vacuum pumps, valves, and holding tank mechanics associated with our portable restroom transport and service trucks.
  • Diagnostics & Electrical: Utilize advanced scan tools to read fault codes, interpret wiring diagrams, and efficiently resolve mechanical, electrical, drivetrain, and steering issues.
  • Brakes & Suspension: Inspect, service, and repair heavy-duty air brake assemblies and suspension systems to ensure complete vehicle safety and performance.
  • Welding & Fabrication: Complete structural repairs, patch welding, and fabrication work on steel roll-off containers, dumpsters, and truck sub-frames as needed.
  • DOT Compliance: Maintain rigorous safety standards to ensure every vehicle leaving the shop is fully compliant with state and federal Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
  • Mobile/Field Repairs: Travel between company locations and respond to fleet maintenance needs, including breakdowns and repairs that cannot be completed at the primary shop.
  • Digital Work Logs: Keep clean, precise digital logs of completed work orders, parts inventory, and preventative maintenance schedules in our fleet tracking system.
  • Parts & Inventory: Identify needed parts, communicate repair requirements, and help maintain an organized inventory of commonly used fleet maintenance parts and supplies.
  • Fleet Inspections: Assist with inspections and evaluations of trucks and equipment to identify potential problems before they result in costly downtime.
  • Emergency Repairs: Respond to urgent mechanical issues and help minimize vehicle downtime to keep daily operations running efficiently.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of professional experience in medium/heavy-duty commercial diesel truck repair or fleet maintenance.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency with heavy vehicle air brakes, diesel engine electronics, and high-pressure fluid hydraulic systems.
  • Tools: Ownership of a complete personal set of standard mechanic hand tools and air tools up to 1/2" drive. Specialty shop tools and diagnostic scanners are provided.
  • Licensing: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required. A Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is highly preferred, or candidate must be willing to obtain one.
  • Travel: Must be willing and able to travel regularly between Indianapolis, IN; Elizabethtown, KY; and Louisville, KY as fleet maintenance needs require.
  • Physical Demands: Physically capable of lifting up to 75 lbs regularly, standing or kneeling for long intervals, and maneuvering comfortably beneath commercial fleet chassis.
  • Weather Conditions: Must be able to work comfortably and productively in all outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Work Environment: Must be comfortable working independently as well as as part of a team in a fast-paced fleet maintenance environment.
