- Valid CDL Class B license is REQUIRED – no exceptions.
- Must be available to work the required schedule: 3:00 AM–11:00 AM. There is NO schedule flexibility for the start time.
- Must be able to start within 2 weeks of interviewing/hiring.
- Must be willing and able to work overtime when required.
- A minimum 30-minute meal/break period is required. Employees may choose to take up to a 1-hour lunch if they prefer. Taking a full 1-hour lunch would extend the workday to approximately 12:00 PM (3:00 AM–12:00 PM).
- Must be able to safely operate a commercial collection/recycling truck and related equipment.
- Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Schedule
Regular Schedule: 3:00 AM–11:00 AM
The 3:00 AM start time is not flexible.
A 30-minute meal/break period is required. Employees may choose to take up to a 1-hour lunch if they prefer. If a full 1-hour lunch is taken, the scheduled workday would extend to approximately 12:00 PM (3:00 AM–12:00 PM).
Overtime may be required based on route needs and business demands.

Position Summary
The Commercial Compost Collection Driver is responsible for safely, efficiently, and courteously providing commercial compost collection services to customers. The driver will operate a commercial collection/recycling truck, collect compostable materials along an assigned local route, and transport collected material to our facility in Ashland City.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a commercial/recycling collection rear-load truck and related hydraulic and ancillary equipment.
- Drive assigned commercial collection routes and collect compostable materials from customer locations.
- Load and collect compostable waste using the truck and collection equipment.
- Operate the truck and equipment using proper techniques to minimize equipment damage and driver-induced mechanical issues.
- Complete required pre-trip and post-trip inspections, daily truck reports, route sheets, and other required documentation.
- Immediately report vehicle mechanical problems or safety concerns to the mechanic and supervisor.
- Maintain route quality and ensure scheduled customer services are completed properly.
- Follow all company, federal, state, and local safety requirements and regulations.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, reflective vest, safety glasses, and appropriate work boots.
- Identify prohibited materials and follow company procedures for handling and reporting unacceptable waste.
- Maintain a clean and orderly truck, including the cab interior and exterior.
- Communicate professionally with customers, the public, supervisors, and other employees.
- Maintain accurate records of services performed.
- Manage and work effectively with assigned helper(s), when applicable.
- Attend required safety meetings, branch meetings, and training.
- Report accidents, incidents, injuries, equipment damage, or other safety concerns immediately.
- Work with supervisors to identify opportunities to improve route efficiency and service quality.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid CDL Class B license – REQUIRED.
- Must have a safe driving record and meet company requirements for operating commercial vehicles.
- Must be able to safely operate a commercial collection vehicle and related equipment.
- Must be able to pass all applicable company requirements for safety-sensitive work.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, customers, and the general public.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous commercial driving, waste collection, recycling, compost collection, or heavy equipment experience is preferred but not required if the applicant otherwise meets the qualifications.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of commercial trucks, truck components, and basic vehicle safety/maintenance requirements.
- Ability to maneuver a large truck safely in tight spaces and high-traffic areas.
- Ability to safely back a commercial vehicle using mirrors and proper backing procedures.
- Ability to recognize prohibited or unacceptable waste materials.
- Ability to read, write, and understand route sheets, maps, instructions, and other work-related documentation.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to safety and situational awareness.
- Professional and courteous customer-service skills.
- Ability to work independently while completing assigned routes and responsibilities.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
This position is physically demanding and requires the ability to:
- Stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, and use hands and fingers.
- Frequently enter and exit the truck and work around collection equipment.
- Lift, push, pull, and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds repetitively using proper lifting techniques.
- Regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift/move heavier items as required by the job.
- Sit for extended periods while operating the vehicle.
- Maintain visual awareness while maneuvering a commercial vehicle in tight and high-traffic areas.
- Hear and communicate effectively in a loud work environment.
- Perform work requiring depth perception, peripheral vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions
- Work outdoors for the majority of the workday.
- Exposure to hot, cold, humid, rainy, and other changing weather conditions.
- Exposure to loud noise, vibration, moving mechanical equipment, fumes, dust, and airborne particles.
- Frequent exposure to motor vehicle traffic and active work areas.
- Work away from the branch/facility for extended periods while completing assigned routes.
- Work around waste materials and collection equipment.
- Must consistently follow all safety procedures and use required PPE.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay: $23.00–$30.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
