Tired of Corporate Micromanagement? Come Drive With a Great Crew.

For over 100 years, Seattle Iron & Metals Corp. has been a family-owned and operated cornerstone of the Seattle industrial community. We know that experienced CDL drivers don’t need someone looking over their shoulder every five minutes to do their job right. If you are burned out on big corporate fleets where you’re treated like nothing more than a truck number, micro-managed by dispatch, and buried in red tape, you’ll fit right in here. We run an exciting, respectful, and safety-focused yard where we hire pros, give you your route, and trust you to handle your truck. You get the friendly, tight-knit atmosphere of a family business backed by the rock-solid financial security of Teamsters Local 174.

Why Drivers Stay With Us:

  • No Micromanagement: We treat our drivers like adults and professionals. Do your pre-trip, run your loads safely, take care of the customer, and enjoy your day without someone breathing down your neck.
  • A Crew You’ll Actually Like Working With: Supportive dispatchers who know the streets, mechanics who keep the fleet safe, and a great team of veteran drivers who have each other’s backs.
  • True Total Compensation ($40–$44+/hr Value): Starting base wage of $31.00 – $35.00/hr DOE (plus 1.5x overtime), PLUS top-tier Teamsters Local 174 family medical, dental, and vision insurance and Pension contributions. Keep your paycheck in your pocket instead of losing $600/month to corporate healthcare deductibles.
  • Real Work-Life Balance: Consistent Monday–Friday daytime schedule out of one Seattle yard. Be home in your own bed every night, with optional additional weekday and Saturday runs when you want extra overtime cash.
  • 100+ Years of Stability: Scrap metal moves year-round—no seasonal layoffs.

What You’ll Do:

You will safely operate heavy-duty Roll-Off and/or Flatbed trucks servicing commercial, industrial, and construction customers across the greater Seattle/Puget Sound area.

  • Haul & Secure: Pick up, drop, and swap roll-off containers, and safely strap, chain, and secure flatbed scrap metal loads in compliance with DOT and company standards.
  • Inspect Inbound Loads: Act as our eyes in the field by checking customer scrap loads for prohibited, hazardous, or closed-cylinder materials before transport.
  • Represent the Yard: Provide friendly, straightforward, and reliable service to regular local customers who are glad to see you pull up.
  • Keep It Safe: Perform thorough daily vehicle inspections (DVIR) and help us maintain a safe, low-stress working environment for our crew and customers.

What You Need to Qualify:

  • Commercial Driver’s License: Valid Washington State Class B CDL required (Class A CDL strongly preferred).
  • Experience: Prior roll-off, hoist, or flatbed load-securement experience is a big plus.
  • Safe Track Record: Current DOT Medical Card and an acceptable MVR/driving record.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate clearly in English with dispatch, yard personnel, and customers.
  • Hands-On Mindset: Comfortable working outdoors in Pacific Northwest weather—strapping, chaining, tarping, and inspecting loads.

Compensation & Benefits Summary:

  • Starting Base Pay: $31.00 – $35.00 per hour DOE
  • Overtime: Paid at 1.5x ($46.50 – $52.50/hr OT rate; weekday & optional Saturday OT available)
  • Health Benefits: Teamsters Local 174 Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Retirement: Pension Plan
  • Time Off: Paid Vacation, Sick Time, and Holidays
