A Scrap Metal/Truck/Warehouse Utility Worker needs to be versatile as this position includes job duties of occasionally driving a box truck between our local stores, pickup of furniture from donors, warehousing, sorting scrap metal. This job is a physical, on your feet type of position, while providing excellent customer service and consistent with the mission and vision of St. Vincent De Paul. Training is provided but must have good driving record and ability to drive a box truck. Warehouse is connected to a retail store. Potential new hires must pass background screening.
This daytime position will be scheduled for 40 hours/weekly, Monday Through Friday 6:30AM to 2:30PM but may be altered slightly in the future. Some occasional overtime is offered.
Essential Functions:
- Work as a team with coworkers to complete assigned tasks and ensure proper customer service based on the daily needs and goals of the warehouse
- This position is of a physical nature that requires the ability to stand, walk, climb, twist, bend and reach and lifting a possibility of 50+# but with assistance and tools
- Treat customers, coworkers and volunteers with dignity and respect in accordance with SVdP-GB mission and values
- Report to work promptly and as scheduled daily, following SVdP guidelines for calling in any absences
- Safely transport pallet goods and packages from a place of origin to assigned destination
- Pick-up loads and organize goods in an ordered, logical manner is key
- Perform daily inspections of forklift and baling equipment to determine the need for repairs and guarantee safety by performing regular maintenance
- Notify managers of any major maintenance or delivery issues encountered immediately
- Identify process improvement opportunities and possible solutions
- Communicate concerns and pertinent information to the Warehouse Lead
- Clean baler area and equipment regularly by removing empty pallets, wood and plastic and by sweeping warehouse elevator and floors, and emptying garbage
- Ensure that health, safety, and security rules are followed, documenting any incidents or accidents
- Other duties as assigned by Associate Director Logistics/Warehouse/IT and or Warehouse Lead
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
- Previous material handling, scrap metal knowledge, delivery or baling experience preferred but will train the right candidate
- Access to reliable transportation
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of warehouse processes/use of baling equipment and loading semis, or ability to learn
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, SVdP policies and procedures
- Consistent attendance
- Knowledge of principles or processes for providing effective customer service
- Skill in communicating effectively in English, in both written and verbal forms
- Skill in independently managing one’s own time to meet deadlines
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
- Skill in operating material handling equipment such as forklifts, powerlifts and balers
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with team members, customers and managers
- Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions
- Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision
- Ability to understand and follow directions
- Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure
- Ability to work a flexible task schedule with changing priorities when needed
- Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties
- MUST have a clean driving record and current driver's license.
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
