Garbage Truck Mechanic

Position: Garbage Truck / Heavy Equipment MechanicEmployment Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

We are looking for a dependable, experienced mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of garbage trucks and related equipment. This position is responsible for keeping trucks safe, reliable, and ready for daily routes.

Job Duties

  • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain garbage trucks and other company vehicles.
  • Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, filters, brakes, tires, fluids, and preventive maintenance.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, electrical systems, air brake systems, and hydraulic systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair garbage truck bodies, compactors, cylinders, pumps, hoses, PTO systems, and related hydraulic equipment.
  • Perform DOT inspections and make necessary safety repairs.
  • Respond to truck breakdowns and make road/service calls when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Keep the shop, tools, and work areas clean and organized.
  • Monitor trucks for upcoming maintenance and identify problems before they cause breakdowns.
  • Order or notify management of parts and supplies needed for repairs.
  • Follow all company and workplace safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • Experience working on diesel trucks, heavy equipment, or garbage trucks preferred.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and air brakes.
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and complete repairs with minimal supervision.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • CDL
  • Must have reliable attendance and be able to work as part of a team.
  • Must be able to lift heavy parts, climb underneath trucks, and work in outdoor conditions when necessary.

Pay: $150.00 - $170.00 per day
