Overview
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Shop Foreman to lead our maintenance and repair team. In this vital role, you will oversee the servicing, repair, and maintenance of a diverse fleet of frontload garbage trucks, roll-off trucks, side-load truck and support vehicles and equipment. Your leadership will ensure that all equipment operates safely and efficiently, supporting our commitment to quality service and operational excellence.

Supervision of Shop Personnel

  • Direct and supervise mechanics, welders, tire technicians, and shop helpers.
  • Assign daily work orders and repair priorities.
  • Monitor quality of repairs and workmanship.
  • Train employees on proper repair procedures and safety practices.
  • Conduct performance evaluations.

Repair Operations

Diagnose and coordinate repairs of:

  • Hydraulic Systems
  • PTO systems
  • Engines and transmissions
  • Electrical systems
  • Braking systems
  • Suspension components
  • Compactors and hoists

Verify repairs are completed correctly before truck returns to service.

Safety Compliance

  • Enforce shop safety policies and OSHA standards.
  • Conduct safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Investigate equipment failures and accidents involving fleet vehicles.
  • Ensure proper lockout/tagout procedures are followed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Parts and Inventory Control

  • Manage parts inventory levels.
  • Order parts, tires, fluids and shop supplies.
  • Maintain vendor relationships.
  • Control maintenance costs and reduce unnecessary expenditures.
  • Prevent downtime caused by parts shortages

Fleet Availability

  • Coordinate with operations managers and dispatch.
  • Prioritize repairs for trucks needed for aily routes.
  • Monitor fleet readiness and availability.
  • Keep management informed of major repairs and out-of-service vehicles.

Budget and Cost Control

  • Monitor labor hours and repair costs.
  • Recommend equipment replacements when repair costs become excessive.
  • Control overtime and shop expenses.
  • Assist with annual maintenance budgeting.

Record Keeping

  • Repair Orders
  • PM schedules
  • DOT inspection records
  • Parts usage reports
  • Warranty vlaims
  • Fleet maintenance logs

Key Expectations for an A1 Disposal Shop Foreman

A successful Shop Foreman at A1 Disposal should:

  • Keep fleet uptime above 90-95%
  • Reduce road calls and breakdowns.
  • Ensure truck pass inspections.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.
  • Lead by example and support the mechanics.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, dispatchers, and management.

Pay: From $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 50.0 per week
