Job Summary

Paynes Plumbing & Electric is seeking an experienced and dependable Septic Pump Truck Driver to join our growing team.

This position is responsible for safely driving and operating our septic pump truck to perform residential and commercial septic tank pumping services throughout our service area. Our pump truck is also equipped with hydro jetting capabilities, so the ideal candidate will be comfortable operating and maintaining both septic pumping and hydro jetting equipment.

This is more than a driving position. We are looking for someone who understands septic systems, can evaluate conditions encountered while on a job, communicate professionally with customers, and recognize when additional septic, plumbing, water, or sewer services may be needed.

The right candidate should be comfortable working independently in the field and representing our company professionally at every customer's property.

Responsibilities

• Safely drive and operate a septic pump truck to and from customer locations and approved disposal facilities
• Perform septic tank pumping and related septic services
• Properly operate pumps, hoses, valves, tanks, and other equipment associated with septic pumping
• Operate hydro jetting equipment when needed for applicable drain and line services
• Inspect the condition of septic tanks and accessible system components during service
• Recognize signs of septic system failure, damaged tanks, drain field concerns, line problems, backups, or other conditions that may require additional service
• Identify potential plumbing, water, sewer, or septic issues discovered while on-site
• Clearly explain findings and recommended next steps to customers in a professional, non-pressure manner
• Identify legitimate opportunities for additional services, repairs, replacements, or further evaluation by our plumbing/septic team
• Communicate with the office and field team when additional work needs to be quoted, scheduled, or evaluated
• Properly dispose of septage at approved disposal locations and follow all applicable procedures
• Maintain accurate job documentation, service notes, photos, and other required records
• Perform routine inspections of the truck and pumping equipment before and after use
• Keep the pump truck, hoses, tools, and equipment clean, organized, and in good working condition
• Report equipment problems, maintenance needs, leaks, or safety concerns promptly
• Follow company safety procedures and all applicable transportation, environmental, and disposal requirements
• Maintain a clean and professional appearance while interacting with customers
• Provide excellent customer service and represent Paynes Plumbing & Electric professionally in the field

Qualifications

Required:

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
• Previous experience driving and operating a septic pump truck, vacuum truck, or comparable pumping equipment
• Working knowledge of septic pumping equipment, including pumps, hoses, valves, and proper operating procedures
• Ability to safely and confidently operate the required truck and equipment without needing basic operational training
• General knowledge of septic systems and the ability to recognize common septic-related problems
• Ability to communicate findings and service recommendations clearly to homeowners and customers
• Comfortable discussing additional services when a legitimate need is identified
• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field
• Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a professional attitude
• Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to lift, pull, carry, and maneuver heavy hoses, equipment, and septic tank lids as required
• Willingness to work around septic waste and other conditions associated with the industry
• Ability to follow safety, disposal, and environmental procedures
• Must be able to pass any applicable pre-employment requirements

Preferred Experience

Experience in any of the following is a plus:

• Septic tank pumping
• Septic system service or installation
• Vacuum truck operation
• Hydro jetting
• Drain cleaning
• Sewer service
• Plumbing service
• Septic inspections
• Tank locating and exposing septic lids
• Identifying failed or damaged septic system components
• Customer-facing service or field sales

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who can take ownership of the truck and the services performed with it. You should be able to arrive at a customer's property, safely complete the pumping service, understand what you're looking at, and recognize when something isn't functioning as it should.

For example, if a tank appears damaged or needs replacement, a line has an apparent issue, hydro jetting may be beneficial, or another plumbing/septic concern becomes apparent during the service call, we expect our technician to recognize it, document it, and professionally discuss the appropriate next step with the customer.

We value honest recommendations over unnecessary sales. The goal is to make sure customers understand the condition of their system and are aware of services that may genuinely solve or prevent a problem.
