Muskingum Iron and Metal is seeking an experienced and safety-conscious Shear Operator to operate a heavy-duty shearing machine used to cut and process scrap metal into manageable sizes for recycling. The ideal candidate will have mechanical aptitude, attention to detail and a strong commitment to workplace safety.

About the company

Since 1929 Muskingum Iron & Metal Co has specialized in the processing of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal. We purchase scrap from the public, commercial accounts, and industrial customers across the region. After segregating material by grade, we package it to meet mill furnace specifications so the material can be melted down to begin its new lifecycle. We currently operate at five locations across Southeastern and Central Ohio. Muskingum Iron & Metal Co. is an equal opportunity employer.

Job Duties

• Operate hydraulic/mechanical shearing equipment to cut ferrous scrap metal into smaller pieces
• Inspect incoming material to identify appropriate cutting methods and equipment settings
• Ability to ensure metal is cut to mill specifications
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to the shear equipment
• Conduct pre and post operational safety checks on machinery and work area
• Collaborate with your co-workers and yard foreman to ensure effective workflow
• Keep work area clean, organized, and free of hazards

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
• Previous experience operating heavy machinery (shears, balers, or similar equipment) preferred
• Strong understanding of workplace safety (OSHA Standards)
• Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills
• Good attention to detail

Pay: From $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
