Position Summary
The Operations Supervisor oversees the day-to-day work on an assigned shift. This is a hands-on position that works directly with employees to keep the facility operating safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
The supervisor assigns work, monitors production, responds to equipment and staffing issues, and makes sure the work areas are clean and ready for the next shift. This position also keeps management informed of any safety, production, employee, or equipment concerns.
Primary Responsibilities
· Supervise operators, sorters, forklift operators, laborers, spotters, and other employees assigned to the shift.
· Start each shift with a short meeting to review assignments, production goals, equipment status, and any safety concerns.
· Place employees where they are needed and adjust assignments as conditions change during the day.
· Monitor inbound loads, sorting, processing, material storage, and outbound shipments.
· Keep production moving and address delays caused by staffing, equipment, contamination, or material quality.
· Make sure employees follow PPE requirements, traffic rules, lockout/tagout procedures, and established work instructions.
· Walk the facility regularly and correct unsafe conditions, poor housekeeping, or improper material storage.
· Review equipment inspections and make sure damaged or unsafe equipment is reported and taken out of service when needed.
· Work with maintenance to identify repair priorities and reduce downtime.
· Respond to equipment jams, spills, hot loads, fires, injuries, and other incidents following company procedures.
· Complete production reports, time records, inspection forms, incident reports, and shift notes accurately and on time.
· Give the next shift a clear update on equipment problems, unfinished work, staffing concerns, and production status.
· Make sure the facility and assigned work areas are properly cleaned before the end of the shift.
· Perform other work assigned by the Operations Manager.
Employee Supervision
· Give employees clear instructions and follow up to make sure the work is completed correctly.
· Coach employees on safe work practices, productivity, quality, attendance, and housekeeping.
· Address performance or conduct problems when they occur and document them as required.
· Work with management and Human Resources on attendance, discipline, and employee concerns.
· Help train new employees and cross-train current employees on different jobs.
· Maintain a respectful work environment and hold employees accountable to the same standards.
Safety Responsibilities
· Lead by example and follow all safety rules at all times.
· Correct unsafe behavior and hazards immediately. Stop the work when a condition cannot be handled safely.
· Make sure employees wear the required PPE and follow emergency response and lockout/tagout procedures.
· Report all injuries, accidents, near misses, spills, fires, and property damage to management right away.
· Complete incident reports and assist with investigations and corrective actions.
· Follow company environmental requirements and all applicable safety regulations.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED required.
· At least two years of experience in recycling, waste management, manufacturing, warehousing, or a similar industrial operation preferred.
· Previous lead or supervisory experience preferred.
· Experience working around forklifts, loaders, conveyors, trucks, trailers, and processing equipment.
· Ability to communicate clearly with employees, drivers, maintenance personnel, and management.
· Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
· Basic computer skills for email, timekeeping, and daily operating reports.
· Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when operations require it.
· Valid driver's license may be required based on assigned duties.

Physical Requirements
· Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the facility.
· Climb stairs and ladders and bend, reach, push, pull, and work around industrial equipment.
· Lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
· Maintain enough vision, hearing, mobility, and awareness to supervise work safely.
· Work indoors and outdoors in changing weather and operating conditions.
Work Environment
This position is performed in an active waste and recycling facility and may involve exposure to dust, dirt, odors, noise, vibration, moving vehicles, conveyors, heavy equipment, uneven surfaces, wet or slippery conditions, sharp or irregular materials, and changing indoor and outdoor temperatures.
Required personal protective equipment may include: hard hat, high-visibility vest, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, steel-toe or composite-toe work boots, and other protection designated by the company.
How Performance Will Be Measured
· Safety performance and how quickly hazards are corrected.
· Whether the shift meets production, recovery, and material quality goals.
· Employee attendance, productivity, training, and accountability.
· Completion of equipment inspections and reduction of avoidable downtime.
· Accuracy and timeliness of daily reports and shift documentation.
· Housekeeping, material control, and prevention of contamination.
· Communication with employees, management, maintenance, and other shifts.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
