Operations Manager – Dumpster & Portable Toilet Rental

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of a growing dumpster and portable toilet rental company. This position is responsible for keeping our office, drivers, trucks, equipment, and daily routes running efficiently.

The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working both in an office environment and in the field. This is a hands-on management position. The Operations Manager will coordinate drivers and routes, handle customer and operational issues, monitor vehicles and equipment, and step in to drive when needed due to staffing or scheduling issues.

The right person will be someone who can take ownership of problems, make decisions, keep employees accountable, and make sure the day's work gets completed safely and efficiently.

Duties

• Key Responsibilities:
• Manage the company's daily operations and workflow
• Coordinate and dispatch drivers for dumpster and portable toilet deliveries, pickups, and service calls
• Monitor daily routes and make adjustments as needed
• Communicate with customers regarding deliveries, pickups, scheduling, and operational issues
• Manage and oversee drivers and field personnel
• Step in to drive company vehicles when a driver calls out or additional field coverage is needed
• Inspect trucks, trailers, and equipment and identify maintenance or safety issues
• Troubleshoot basic vehicle and equipment problems and coordinate repairs when necessary
• Maintain preventative maintenance schedules for company vehicles and equipment
• Coordinate with mechanics, repair shops, and vendors
• Make sure trucks and equipment are properly maintained, clean, and ready for service
• Address unexpected operational problems and find practical solutions quickly
• Help maintain accurate records of routes, deliveries, pickups, maintenance, and equipment
• Monitor employee performance, attendance, and adherence to company procedures
• Ensure drivers and field employees follow safety procedures and company policies
• Help improve routing, scheduling, and overall operational efficiency
• Assist ownership/management with other operational needs as they arise

Requirements

• Required Qualifications:
• Valid CDL. Class A or Class B commercial driver's license, as required for the company's vehicles

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience managing drivers or field employees
• Experience in the dumpster, roll-off, grapple, portable toilet, or waste management industry
• Fleet maintenance or vehicle troubleshooting experience
• Experience with dispatching and route management
• Knowledge of DOT regulations and commercial vehicle requirements
• Experience coordinating with mechanics, repair shops, and vendors
• CDL experience operating multiple types of commercial vehicles
• Clean and acceptable driving record
• Experience operating roll-off trucks and/or grapple trucks
• Previous experience in operations, dispatch, fleet management, logistics, waste management, transportation, or a related field
• Ability and willingness to drive company trucks when needed, including covering driver call-outs and staffing shortages
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to troubleshoot problems and make decisions independently
• Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to identify common vehicle and equipment issues
• Ability to work both in an office environment and outdoors/in the field
• Reliable, dependable, and willing to take ownership of responsibilities

Pay: $50,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
