Landfill Equipment Operator

Pay: $32.28/hour Location: Portland, Maine Schedule: Full‑time, Non‑Exempt

ecomaine is seeking a reliable, safety‑focused Landfill Equipment Operator to support daily recycling operations by sorting materials, operating equipment, and keeping production running smoothly. This is a hands‑on role in a fast‑paced industrial environment with opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute to Maine’s sustainability efforts.

What You’ll Do

· Operate dozers, loaders, excavators, trucks, and other equipment to maintain landfill roads, dumping areas, and soil stockpiles.

· Perform grading, compacting, loading/unloading, and preparation of landfill rain caps.

· Conduct daily equipment maintenance including greasing, fluid checks, and cleaning.

· Detect and report equipment or system issues; perform routine maintenance.

· Maintain logs of landfill ash dumping locations and operations.

· Support snow plowing, erosion control, and unexpected operational needs.

· Work with vendors and contractors as needed.

· Follow all ecomaine safety rules, policies, and procedures.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Valid driver’s license.

· Full-time experience operating heavy equipment (dozers, loaders, excavators, trucks).

· Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform physically demanding work under varying conditions.

· Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a high-productivity team.

· Knowledge of material specifications and ability to read/apply company policies.

Additional Requirements

· Pre‑placement physical and lifting assessment required.

· Six‑month probationary period applies.
