Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Computer Operator/Landfill Facility Technician
REPORTS TO: Solid Waste Supervisor/Landfill Administrator
SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for computerized data entry, cash transactions, charge account transactions, and public relations. Most work requires a high level of accuracy as errors could result in a significant loss of time and money. Employee has contact with both inside and outside sources to supply or obtain factual information. Other duties include handling and sorting Moderate Risk Waste at the Asotin County Regional Landfill Household Hazardous Waste Facility, site maintenance which includes litter pick up; mowing; weed whacking and other ground maintenance as necessary. Training will be provided for these tasks by Asotin County.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Computerized data entry of cash and charge account invoices. Maintains charge accounts for statements, charges, payments, past due accounts. Type correspondence needed for charge account patrons. Generate necessary reports for tonnage, vehicles, excise taxes, etc. Other pertinent filing, office records and maintenance as needed.
Assists with the receiving, handling, and bulking of Moderate Risk Waste. Includes updating and maintenance of reports and records. Works with the contracted environmental waste disposer for Asotin County.
Helps keep the public updated and informed on household hazardous waste, waste reduction, and recycling programs that the County offers.
Performs site maintenance, i.e.: lawn mowing, tree trimming, maintaining grounds, litter pick up.
Performs recycling drop box site maintenance.
Performs related work as required or assigned by the Solid Waste Supervisor, and assists other office employees when required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to operate a typewriter, calculator, personal computer, fax machine, and other standard office machines.
- Knowledge of modern record and bookkeeping methods.
- Ability to type accurately at the rate of forty-five (45) words per minute.
- Ability to learn rapidly the activities, policies, and procedures of the Landfill.
- Ability to establish and maintain good public/employee relations.
- Ability to carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to work independently in the performance of regularly assigned duties.
- Ability to work as a team player with all co-workers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ability to read, write, speak a,d comprehend the English language.
Ability to work outside in all seasonal temperatures in Level D and Level C protective clothing while bulking and accepting Moderate Risk Waste. May be required at times to work in extreme cold/hot, wet and/or humid weather.
Ability to work a variety of hours including Saturday, and to maintain a flexible schedule.
Ability to pass and maintain OSHA 24-hour Hazardous Waste Operations Certification.
Physical abilities include: standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time; reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, pulling; Ability to lift 50 pounds.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
One year of computer applications, general clerical applicable to the work requirements of this position, or equivalent.
Any combination of professional experience, education or training which would provide the level of knowledge and ability required.
Moderate Risk Waste experience desired. Must obtain an OSHA 24 Hour Hazardous Waste Operations Certification within 12 months.
Must have First Aid Training Certification within twelve (12) months.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Pay: $18.51 - $20.44 per hour
