Job Description

Hazmat Response Technician / CDL Tanker Driver

Emergency Environmental Services (EES) is seeking an experienced, safety-focused Hazmat Response Technician / CDL Tanker Driver to join our emergency response and environmental services team.

This is a hands-on position combining hazardous materials emergency response, environmental cleanup, and commercial vehicle operation. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in demanding environments, takes safety seriously, and can professionally respond to both scheduled environmental projects and unplanned emergency incidents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to hazardous material spills, releases, leaks, and other emergency incidents
  • Perform containment, recovery, cleanup, and decontamination of hazardous and non-hazardous materials
  • Safely operate vacuum trucks, tankers, tractor-trailers, and related environmental response equipment
  • Transport hazardous and non-hazardous materials and waste in accordance with applicable DOT, EPA, and state/local regulations
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections
  • Properly use required PPE and respiratory protection
  • Follow company health and safety procedures, site-specific requirements, and regulatory standards
  • Assist with loading, unloading, pumping, vacuuming, and transferring liquids and other materials
  • Work alongside emergency responders, customers, site representatives, and regulatory personnel as required
  • Maintain emergency response vehicles, equipment, PPE, and supplies in a response-ready condition
  • Complete driver logs, manifests, incident reports, inspection records, and other required documentation
  • Participate in emergency response callouts and after-hours assignments when required
  • Perform additional environmental field services and industrial cleanup work as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Valid CDL Class A or Class B
  • Current Hazmat and Tanker endorsements
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in hazardous materials response, environmental services, commercial tanker operations, industrial services, or a related field
  • Must be able to proficiently operate a standard/manual-transmission commercial vehicle
  • Strong understanding of safe hazardous materials handling practices
  • Ability to safely work around hazardous substances and industrial environments
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work while wearing required PPE
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call emergency response rotation and respond outside normal business hours
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established safety procedures
  • Acceptable driving record and ability to meet company and applicable DOT driver requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification
  • Previous hazardous materials emergency response experience
  • Experience operating vacuum trucks, vacuum tankers, pumps, and industrial cleaning equipment
  • Confined space entry experience
  • Air monitoring and atmospheric testing experience
  • Respiratory protection experience
  • Familiarity with hazardous waste transportation and manifests
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic equipment troubleshooting skills
  • Experience working in industrial facilities, refineries, manufacturing facilities, or similar environments

Work Environment

This is a field-based and safety-sensitive position. Employees may work around hazardous materials, heavy equipment, commercial vehicles, industrial facilities, emergency scenes, and active remediation sites.

The position may require extended shifts, overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, travel, and emergency callouts depending on operational needs.

Employees must be capable of performing assigned duties while wearing required PPE, which may include protective clothing and respiratory protection.

Schedule

This position includes regularly scheduled work as well as participation in emergency response operations. Because environmental emergencies can occur at any time, schedule flexibility and availability for emergency callouts are essential to this position.
