SOLID WASTE OPERATOR I, II (LANDFILL)

Job Summary: Operates in the areas of Solid Waste Collection, Landfill, and/or Material Recovery Facility (MRF).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Solid Waste Operator I: (Salary range: $50,217 - $60,212)

• Operates solid waste equipment such as, rear loader, front end loader, forklift skid steer, and/or yard waste processing equipment such as yard waste turner and screening equipment.
• Must perform duties to standard operations and safety defined by each appropriate equipment manufacturer and industry standards; reads and interprets appropriate instruction and/or construction plans.
• Performs basic maintenance and repair of equipment.
Snow removal/sanding operations.

Solid Waste Operator II: (Salary range: $55,239 - $66,233)
In addition to Solid Waste Operator I duties:

• Operates equipment within the Collections, MRF, Co-Compost Facility, and/or Landfill departments to include, but not limited to roll off truck, garbage collections truck, motor grader, scraper, landfill compactor, bulldozer, baler, semi-truck tractor and walking floor trailer, yard waste grinder, automated collection truck.
When working in operations requiring grading and excavation, shall be capable of constructing to final grade.

Qualifications:

Solid Waste Operator I: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one-year related experience and/or training. A combination of education and experience deemed appropriate to fulfill the role and responsibilities of this position will be considered. Must possess a valid Driver’s License.

Solid Waste Operator II: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years related experience and/or training. A combination of education and experience deemed appropriate to fulfill the role and responsibilities of this position will be considered. Must possess a valid South Dakota Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

Note: Solid Waste Operator II Assigned to Landfill: Must possess a valid Driver’s License upon hire. Must obtain South Dakota Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 90 days of hire.
