Job Description
The purpose of this job is to direct, and coordinate landfill activities concerned with solid waste disposal and recycling efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Physical Demands:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, dancing, stretching, or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness, and speed in the use of fingers, hands, or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment):
Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors.
Traffic; Moving machinery.
Electrical shock; Heights.

- Oversees road grading, wall building, land clearing, and ditch digging to ensure compliance with all DHEC regulations and standards.
- Responds to telephone calls, email, and personnel requests for solid waste and landfill business to ensure a timely resolution.
- Ensures that waste disposal activities are in compliance with public health insect and rodent control laws and regulations.
- Instructs, assigns, and reviews work plans, maintains standards, and coordinates activities of employees.
- Oversees convenience sites and makes sure the grass is cut.
- Directs and participates in the servicing and maintenance of landfill equipment to ensure proper and safe operating conditions.
- Runs bull dozers, backhoes, front-end loaders, and compactors; drives trash truck and ensures Three Rivers tractor trailer drivers get in and out of landfill.
- Acts as County liaison with Three Rivers Solid Waste Authority and Waste Management, Inc. which are County contracted waste haulers for incoming and outgoing waste from transfer station and C & D landfill.
- Performs other duties and related work as instructed and assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
- Requires four (4) years of experience in Solid Waste or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
