Tropical Trash
We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Fleet Manager to oversee and manage our fleet of trash and recycling collection vehicles. The Fleet Manager is responsible for ensuring that all vehicles are properly maintained, compliant with safety standards, and efficiently scheduled to support daily waste collection operations. This role will play a key part in maximizing vehicle uptime, controlling costs, and ensuring smooth daily operations.
Key Responsibilities: Fleet Operations & Maintenance
- Manage day-to-day operations of the fleet, including trash trucks, roll-off trucks, and support vehicles.
- Schedule and oversee routine maintenance, repairs, inspections, and DOT compliance.
- Monitor vehicle performance and downtime; troubleshoot recurring issues.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance, inspections, fuel usage, and repairs.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all vehicles meet federal, state, and local regulations including DOT, OSHA, and environmental guidelines.
- Coordinate vehicle inspections and registrations.
- Enforce driver safety and preventative maintenance programs.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and support shop technicians and mechanics.
- Collaborate with dispatchers to assign equipment and adjust schedules.
- Provide training or guidance for proper vehicle use and safety practices.
Inventory & Budget
- Maintain parts inventory and manage vendor relationships for parts and services.
- Monitor fleet expenses and stay within budget for fuel, parts, and maintenance.
- Recommend cost-saving strategies for fleet operations and replacement planning.
Technology & Reporting
- Utilize fleet management software and GPS tracking systems for scheduling, tracking, and reporting.
- Generate regular reports on vehicle usage, fuel efficiency, maintenance costs, and downtime.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in fleet management or maintenance operations, preferably in waste management or transportation industry.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, diesel engines, hydraulics, and DOT compliance.
- Familiarity with GPS, telematics, and fleet management software (e.g., Samsara, Fleetio, etc.)
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Pay: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
