Position Summary
American Safety LLC is a nationwide provider of environmental response, industrial cleaning, waste management, and transportation services. The Environmental Technician / CDL Class A Driver supports environmental response, remediation, and transportation operations by combining hands-on fieldwork with the safe, DOT-compliant operation of heavy commercial vehicles. This position requires mechanical aptitude, a strong safety focus, and the ability to perform effectively in dynamic field environments while maintaining full compliance with all federal, state, and company regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in emergency response, cleanup, and remediation of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
- Conduct soil excavation, containment, waste removal, drum handling, and tank cleaning.
- Assist with confined space entry, high-pressure washing, vacuum operations, and site decontamination.
- Operate and maintain environmental response equipment including vacuum trucks, pressure washers, pumps, air movers, and generators.
- Prepare work areas, set up containment zones, and perform decontamination procedures according to project plans and safety standards.
- Complete required documentation such as job hazard analyses (JHAs), tailgate safety meetings, and daily field reports.
- Follow OSHA, EPA, and company-specific safety protocols and policies.
Transportation / CDL Responsibilities
- Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles including vacuum trucks, roll-offs, end dumps, tankers, and flatbeds.
- Transport hazardous and non-hazardous waste and materials to and from project sites in accordance with DOT and EPA regulations.
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections, reporting any defects or maintenance needs.
- Maintain accurate driver logs (ELD or manual), trip sheets, manifests, and mileage reports.
- Secure cargo loads and ensure compliance with all FMCSA load and transport standards.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, project supervisors, and clients regarding schedules and site conditions.
- Maintain a clean, professional vehicle appearance and adhere to company policies for driving and safety.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- License: Valid CDL Class A with Hazmat (H) and Tanker (N) endorsements preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 1–2 years of verifiable CDL driving experience with a clean MVR.
- Environmental or industrial field experience preferred (training provided).
- Knowledge / Skills:
- Working knowledge of DOT, EPA, and OSHA standards.
- Ability to interpret manifests, SDS, and site-specific safety plans.
- Basic understanding of environmental response procedures and equipment.
- Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability in field environments.
- Must have computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, ELD systems, and digital safety documentation tools.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more, bend, climb, and work in confined spaces or elevated areas.
- Capable of working in various weather conditions while wearing required PPE including respirators, chemical suits, and protective gear.
- Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and be part of the 24-hour emergency response rotation.

Work Environment
- Field-based position with frequent travel and overnight assignments.
