Job Summary
LJP Waste Solutions is seeking a full-time 1st Shift Equipment Operator, Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM.
The 1st Shift Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy equipment — including front end loaders, forklifts, compactors, and shredder systems — to keep materials moving through the transfer floor and processing operations. This role works closely with the 1st Shift Supervisor and other plant personnel to maintain steady production flow, uphold safety and quality standards, and support overall plant operations.
The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically capable, and comfortable working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy equipment (front end loaders, forklifts, compactors, shredders, and similar machinery) to move and process materials
- Conduct pre- and post-shift equipment inspections; report mechanical issues or safety concerns to the supervisor promptly
- Monitor incoming materials for contamination, prohibited items, or safety hazards; remove or flag as needed
- Maintain steady and efficient material flow from the transfer floor through the compactor and shredder systems
- Follow all company safety procedures, environmental regulations, and operational policies
- Coordinate with the shift supervisor and maintenance staff to minimize downtime and address equipment issues
- Participate in pre-shift and post-shift meetings to stay informed on priorities, safety topics, and operational updates
- Perform routine equipment cleaning, basic maintenance, and housekeeping duties
- Accurately complete production logs and related documentation as required
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations or operational disruptions
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the shift
- Support overall plant operations and perform additional duties as assigned
Education / Training
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid driver's license required
Experience
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience operating heavy equipment (front end loaders, forklifts, or similar), preferably in waste management, recycling, manufacturing, or industrial operations
- Experience in waste management, recycling, construction, or environmental services industries preferred
Required Skills
- Demonstrated ability to safely and competently operate heavy equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and follow instructions in a fast-paced environment
- Effective verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of safety protocols and regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, and related standards)
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume industrial setting
- Basic proficiency with production logs and related documentation
Preferred Skill
- Bilingual (English and Spanish)
Physical Demands
- Ability to walk the plant floor and stand for extended periods throughout the shift
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to bend, climb, and move throughout an active industrial facility
Working Conditions
- Ability to work Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
- Exposure to an outdoor and industrial environment, including varying weather conditions and temperatures
- Exposure to noise, dust, and odors typical of a waste and recycling processing facility
